Jason Gunn is a New Zealand television presenter, director and
writer. He is best known for co-hosting hit show Dancing With The
Stars, and game shows The Rich List and Wheel of Fortune.
With his wife leading TV Producer Janine Morrell-Gunn, Jason owns
production and facilities company Whitebait-TV. Based in
Christchurch, Whitebait-TV is the producer of the TV programmes
What Now, The Erin Simpson Show, Animal Academy and commercial and
corporate work. The spacious and client focussed facility features
two film and TV studio's including one of the biggest in the
country at 594m2 and is able to broadcast live to national and
international networks. Whitebait TV offers a full range of
production services including editing, audio post production and
animation.
Gunn became the face of children's television in New Zealand in
the 1980's and 90's. He hosted on long-running programmes After
School, What Now? and the Son of a Gunn Show, often accompanied by
his sidekick Thingee.
After the end of Son of a Gunn in 1995, Jason began to expand his
demographic, hosting performance showcase Young Entertainers, and
the show Small Talk, in which contestants guess how children will
answer questions.
In the late 90s Gunn and his wife, Janine set up Whitebait-TV,
Gunn has written and directed a number of productions for the
company. In 2004 Whitebait-TV won the tender to take over
production of the long running Sunday morning show What Now?, which
Gunn had once helped host.
In 2005 he won hosting duties on the high-rating Dancing With the
Stars, which paired New Zealand celebrities with professional
dancers in a competition for charity. Aside from presenting
alongside dancer Candy Lane, the show also showcased Gunn's skills
as a singer and dancer.
Dancing With the Stars won him best presenting awards in 2007,
2008 and 2009 at the Qantas Media Awards. In 2006 through to 2010
readers of TV Guide agreed, voting Gunn the funniest person
on New Zealand television. Gunn has also hosted Wheel of Fortune,
The Rich List and various television specials, including "50 years
of TV".
Since early 2008 Gunn has been the Christchurch host of Classic
Hit's successful Breakfast radio programme.
Jason Gunn lives with his wife Janine and four children just out
of Christchurch and is "as passionate about making great telly and
entertaining as I was 25 years ago".
