Fun, gunge and lots of sun will be part of the exciting What Now
visit to Hanmer Springs, as part of the production's 30th year as
the home kids television. On Sunday 21st August, the What Now
crew will roll up with games and laughs to share the morning magic
with the children of the Hanmer Springs area, with a live broadcast
from the Thermal Reserve Pools and Spa.
Returning to the township is a long awaited and much anticipated
journey for the What Now team, who are looking forward to meeting
the locals and getting them involved in the live show. With
the crew, will be the familiar face of Gem Knight, What Now's
friendly female presenter, plus the three finalists for the Charge
in for Charlie competition and search for Gem's co-host. All
three will be put through their paces, with the help of some local
businesses and characters, to challenge them in a range of
activities that are super, scary and a little bit silly!
The search for a new presenter means saying goodbye to the much
loved, long time host Charlie Panapa after 6 years of fronting
every Sunday morning on our television screens. While it is
farewell to him, he is excited to meet the contender's stepping up
to take over the reigns as co-host of New Zealand's longest running
children's show! 'Presenting What Now has been the best years
of my life - the memories I take with me are endless fun, exciting
opportunities and lots and lots of Gunge!'
While he embarks on world travel and new challenges, the
opportunity for a new face to front New Zealand's favourite
children's show is up for the taking! The job is out there
waiting for anyone, says Producer Reuben Davidson. 'The
really exciting thing is that it's an all play, rare opportunity to
land the dream job on screen. We have had a great range of
applicants, and the excitement now builds at the prospect of
meeting them, before we move towards bringing our top 3 to Hanmer
Springs for the final. Our visit to Hanmer Springs will allow
New Zealand to whittle down the choice from three to one!'
When What Now touches down in Hanmer on the 21st, they will be
welcoming everyone to be part of the fun from 7am at the Hanmer
Springs Thermal Pools and Spa, before going live to air on TV2 from
8am -10am. All of those keen families who want to be part of
the excitement will be treated to free entry to the pools for the
morning and will get to enjoy the front row seat of all the
action! The What Now team is looking forward to seeing you
there!
